Illuminim

December 2018

Illuminim was a collaborative installation for Lightwaves 2018, commissioned by Quays Culture and developed with James Medd, Gemma Laytham, One Five West (Anna Horton Cremin and Sophie Bullock) and Lewis Sykes, with support from Barclays Eagle Lab.

A set of buoy-like lanterns sat by the water at Salford Quays, waiting for people to tap a new rhythm into a web app via their smartphone (or a nearby tablet). The lanterns played back each new rhythm as they arrived, with the colours changing in time with the beat.

I was responsible for the LED software, which parsed the incoming rhythm data to influence the timing of colour changes down a single strip of DotStar LEDs.
